The White Night invites Parisians, Île-de-France inhabitants and tourists to enjoy a free cultural outing on Saturday October 2, 2021. Go and discover places making the news of Paris art and especially in the museums of the city and around. The Musée d'Art Moderne opens late at night to shine a light on the winners of the art creation support action by the City of Paris and the Crédit Municipal de Paris. These five pieces of work will be inaugurated for the White Night and visible from October 2 to 31, 2021 within the museum.
According to Paris deputy Mayor Carine Rolland: “the winning artists are representative of the dynamisms of contemporary creation in the Parisian region. Paris Museum of Modern Art that provides optimum exhibition conditions will enable them to treat visitors to a meeting close to their art, in a period of time we need materiality a lot”.
This exhibition is loosely based on Witold Gombrowicz’s eponymous novel, and gathers five artists whose pieces of work have been selected in 2020 during the second edition of the “I % Marché de l’art” plan presided by Paris Museum of Modern Art (MAM) director.
Written in 1939 edited in 1973 and fully published in 1990, “Possessed” or “Les Envoûtés” novel reveals the experiences some characters in a strange castle featuring 170 rooms including huge art treasures that are left to report. Now cult – as its novelist – the novel shakes up the rules of noir fiction. Anyway, it leaves no one untouched because of its originality.
Therefore, the 5 artists have decided to echo to the novel through originality and breaking the rules. These pieces of work show creation is still relevant and invite us to lose our bearings.
So, shall we go and enjoy it for the White Night?
