Since its creation in 1946, the world-class Cannes Festival has been subjected to numerous scandals. Until 28 May 2017, the Cinémathèque Française returns on these events…

Cannes Festival celebrates its 70th anniversary and whilst waiting what this edition has in store, let’s have a look at the selection’s most heated moments… The Cinémathèque offers to discover until 28 May 2017 a retrospective based on 26 movies which created the event throughout this international movie festival.

Heckled movies, contested awards, diplomatic incidents, organized blasphemies… Numerous scandals and controversies fueled the Croisette.

The Festival general delegate, Thierry Frémaux, enjoys drawing up a scandal typology. First, the esthetic scandal with Frederico Fellini’s “La Dolce Vita” or with Maurice Pialat’s “Under the Sun of Satan”. Then, the political furore with Alain Resnais’s “Night and Fog” or Michael Moore “Fahrenheit 9/11”. And finally, the moral outrage with Marco Ferreri’s “La Grande Bouffe” (Blow-Out) or Lars Von Trier’s “Antichrist”.

Here is the perfect opportunity to know more about the Festival and to discover or rediscover masterpieces on the big screen.
