Over 80 years after, it is still going strong! And yet, Le Champo almost disappeared! In 1999, as renovation and building purchase projects grow in rue Champollion, the owner of Le Champo wants to sell the building housing the movie theater. But it was without counting on the support from many cinephile fans and movie professionals who did everything they could to save it. The situation is heard by the Paris mayor. And rare action, the authority decides to fill in an application to add Le Champo as part of historic monuments and save this cinematographic heritage. The application succeeds in 2000. The entire building is listed as historic monument and saved.
Today, Le Champo keeps on making viewers and cinephiles enjoy great experiences. On one hand thanks to the huge architecture at the corner of the Rue des Ecoles in the Latin Quarter, and on the other hand, thanks to the program. Le Champo re-releases old French or foreign movie classics, screened in 2K only. Two rooms are available and each has a specific design. The room 1 enjoys blue lights on the ceiling. And room 2, the lights on the ceiling make us feel like we are watching a movie under a starry sky.
A stone’s throw from there, you can also enjoy the Filmothèque, a genuine temple of classic indie movies. And around Le Champo, many historic and cultural monuments to visit. Less than 10 minutes by foot stands the Luxembourg garden, as well as the Senate. The National Middle Age Museum and the Cluny thermal baths are set close to Le Champo. And within 8 minutes by foot, you can also visit one of the most famous monuments in Paris: the Pantheon also featuring a movie theater.
