To everyone's surprise, a Hispanic spin-off of"Bird Box" has been announced, accompanied by a first teaser. The teaser features images from the original film, followed by excerpts from"Bird Box Barcelona" featuring its protagonist, played by Mario Casas.
This Spanish thriller is directed by Àlex and David Pastor, the makers of "The Occupant" in which Mario Casas played one of the lead roles. The actor is no stranger to Netflix, having previously collaborated with the platform on projects such as the series "Innocent" and the film "Irrémédiable". Joining him in the cast are Diego Calva, Lola Dueñas, Georgina Campbell, Patrick Criado, Celia Freijeiro, Gonzalo de Castro, Michelle Jenner and Leonardo Sbaraglia.
The synopsis for"Bird Box Barcelona" reveals that Sebastian and his young daughter Anna must embark on their own survival journey through the desolate streets of Barcelona, after the world's population has been decimated by a mysterious force that kills those who see it. As they reluctantly join forces with other survivors and make their way to safety, a threat even more sinister than the invisible creatures emerges. The film is scheduled for release on July 14.
