Xavier Dolan stops acting: "I no longer have the desire or the strength".

Quebec filmmaker Xavier Dolan, known for his films "Mommy" and "Just at the End of the World", has announced to Spanish media outlet "El Pais" that he is calling time on his career. The 32-year-old director released a TV series a few months ago.

For Xavier Dolan, it's all too much. After the successive failures of Ma vie avec John F. Donovan, Matthias et Maxime, and La Nuit où Laurier Gaudreault s'est réveillé, his latest films and series, the Quebec filmmaker is putting an end to his career, he announced in Spanish media outlet El Pais. Notably known for his film Mommy, the director marked the 2010 decade with his films, but they failed to find their audience. "I no longer have the desire or the strength to invest two years in a project and then have almost no one see it," he told the daily.

Xavier Dolan also insisted on the emptiness of his work, given the current state of the world: "I don't understand what's the point of striving to tell stories while the world is collapsing around us. Art is useless and devoting oneself to cinema a waste of time."

As a reminder, La Nuit où Laurier Gaudreault s'est réveillé, Xavier Dolan's first (and obviously last) foray onto the small screen, was released on Canal+ on November 24.
