We suspected it, after the successive departures of the actors, but season 4 of Sex Education is well and truly the last! It has been online on Netflix since this Thursday, September 21.
The end of high school, the start of university, and brand-new sexual adventures await the series' heroes, about to embark on a major transition in their lives. Yes, Otis, Maeve, Eric and all the other Moordale students have moved on to other high schools, after Moordale closed! And the former officially becomes a sex therapist. Meanwhile, Maeve is living her American dream.
Otis is nervous about setting up his new clinic, while Eric prays they'll stop being losers. But Cavendish is a culture shock for all Moordale students: they thought they were progressive, but this university is on another level. There's daily yoga in the communal garden, a strong sustainability vibe and a group of kids who are popular because they're... nice?!
Our opinion
As in every season, it's a real pleasure to find all these sex-obsessed teenagers. And for this latest batch of episodes, the showrunners seem to be pulling out all the stops. From the very first episode, more raw and frontal, more direct, and with more close-ups, those who know, know...
It's also an opportunity to see some new faces, since the school is changing, and so are the students, so there are (very) many secondary characters who disappear, but the best are still there, the leading trio, of course, but also Aimee, Ruby, Isaac, Adam and Jackson. And as in previous seasons, Aimee remains the most endearing and funny character of the entire cast.
But all this is in the continuity of the previous seasons, without renewing itself too much. We enjoy discovering our heroes' new adventures, but they're still pretty much the same. The only difference is that there's more inclusivity and diversity, which is inevitably nice to see, but becomes almost parodic, so improbable is life at Cavendish High. But that's also why we love Sex Education, and die-hard fans are sure to enjoy it.
