On November 3 on Netflix, Quentin Dupieux's Yannick, a surprisingly absurd comedy starring Raphaël Quenard, Pio Marmaï and Blanche Gardin, arrives to the delight of fans of offbeat humor.

With Yannick, Quentin Dupieux has created a wacky comedy in the vein of his previous works such as Incroyable mais vrai and Fumer fait couser. Released in August 2023, the film stars Raphaël Quenard, Pio Marmaï and Blanche Gardin in a situation as absurd as it is hilarious. The story takes place during a performance of the play "Le Cocu", a shoddy vaudeville that prompts Yannick, a disgruntled spectator, to interrupt the show and take charge of the evening. With this film, Dupieux explores, with humor and a quirky tone, the themes of discomfort, dissatisfaction and unexpected empowerment. Known for his unique style and daring artistic choices, Dupieux once again manages to surprise with a blend of social criticism and absurdist humor.

Where and when can you see Yannick in France?

Yannick will be available on Netflix from November 3, 2024.

Synopsis: In the middle of a performance of "Le Cocu", a very bad boulevard play, Yannick gets up and interrupts the show to take control of the evening...

Yannick will appeal to fans of absurdist comedies and stories that explore social malaise, with a dose of irreverence and surprise typical of Dupieux's style. This film will appeal to viewers who like offbeat comedies, where everyday life takes a totally unpredictable turn, and who have enjoyed works such as Réalité or Le Daim. Fans of Raphaël Quenard, the rising revelation of French cinema, will rediscover his talent for embodying authentic, slightly offbeat characters, while those following the careers of Blanche Gardin and Pio Marmaï will appreciate seeing them in unusual, comic roles. However, the atypical humor and daring direction may not suit viewers who prefer more classic stories.

In recent years, Quentin Dupieux has established himself as a prolific director, with an inimitable style and a steady stream of releases. After recent successes such as Incroyable mais vrai, Fumer fait couser and Daaaaaalí !, Yannick demonstrates his ability to captivate a wide audience with comedies as absurd as they are intelligent. The director called on Raphaël Quenard, a new rising star in French cinema following his acclaimed performances in Chien de la Casse and Je verrai toujours vos visages. With Pio Marmaï and Blanche Gardin, he brings together an eclectic cast that adds a unique dimension to this satire on social frustration and the art of theater.

With Yannick, Quentin Dupieux offers a comedy full of surprises and twists. The film promises to be a hilarious and critical immersion in spontaneous reactions to boredom, perfect for fans of offbeat humor and daring cinema.

Our opinion of Yannick (2023):

In the middle of a performance of "Le Cocu", a very bad boulevard play, Yannick gets up and interrupts the show to take over the evening...

For a film made in secret, on an ultra-limited budget and produced in record time alongside the production of"Daaaaaali!","Yannick" is surprisingly good! Quentin Dupieux shows us that he's at ease with any genre, with a single location, a handful of characters and sober direction. With just over an hour on the clock, the film is consistently hilarious, and it owes it all to its incredible performer. Because yes, the film wouldn't have been as good without Raphaël Quenard. The revelation of 2023 carries the film on his shoulders and proves himself a great actor. He's a real UFO in French cinema, and the filmmaker exploits his talent brilliantly.

His phrasing, dialogue and reactions are all brilliant. We inevitably end up getting attached to this not-so-crazy outsider, who just wanted to have a good time. And even if the film consists of a series of deaf dialogues in which Yannick wants to make his opinion heard, and takes the whole room hostage to do so, the film is never repetitive, and always finds a way to reinvent itself. Yannick is the surprise of the summer. Nobody expected it, but you're all going to love it.
