After Adieu les cons, Second Tour, the new comedy directed by Albert Dupontel, is coming to theaters. With a cast including Cécile de France and Nicolas Marié, the film is scheduled for national release on October 25.
The plot revolves around Miss Pove, a political journalist relegated to the soccer beat following a professional setback. Against all odds, she finds herself covering the presidential campaign between the two rounds. The favorite candidate, Pierre-Henry Mercier, is much more than a political novice; he is the heir to an influential French family.
Yet behind the candidate's smooth mask lurks a face Miss Pove has crossed paths with in the past. Intrigued and determined to find out more about the real Pierre-Henry Mercier, she embarks on an investigation that is both revealing and hilarious.
And with this new opus, Albert Dupontel extends the melancholy atmosphere ofAdieu les Cons, winner of the César for Best Film 2021. Second Tour never reaches the subtlety and mastery of the latter, but remains a lovely film, touching and funny, with immense visual ambition. The film is, in fact, on the bangs of the usual French production. This makes it a film not to be missed, but its sometimes disjointed and far-fetched aspect could lose you. Nevertheless, the film's political message is powerful.
