The future Oscar for Best Foreign Film may well be French, with La Passion de Dodin Bouffant. The CNC had first unveiled the shortlist of films that France would be submitting to the Academy for this category. It included five very different films:
Two of these films have already won major awards at the Cannes Film Festival. Anatomie d'une Chute (Anatomy of a Fall ) won the Palme d'Or, making it the automatic final choice (as well as being the best film of the selection). While La Passion de Dodin Bouffant won a well-deserved Prix de la Mise en Scène. In fact, these two feature films were the two favorites, and in the end it was Trần Anh Hùng's work that was selected to represent France.
And if you'd like to discover these films in theaters, Anatomie d'une Chute is still being screened just about everywhere, while Le Règne Animal comes out on September 27, and La Passion de Dodin Bouffant, on November 8.
