According to a study commissioned by the CNC, Parisian and even French tourism owes a great deal to films and series shot in the region.

Tourists love to discover the places they've seen in their favorite films or TV series. The practice has a name, thanks to its growing popularity: cine-tourism. In fact, we even have a guide dedicated to the filming locations of cult or recent films and series in Paris. And to put figures to this trend, the CNC has commissioned a study on the subject, focusing on three main areas: foreign tourists in Paris, the French as a whole, and French and foreign tourists in the regions.

The study reveals that over 86% of foreign tourists have seen one or more French dramas in their country of origin, and 80% of these Francophiles admit that the works they saw made them want to visit Paris. Top films and series included Intouchables, Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain, Dix pour Cent and Le Bureau des Légendes. It's worth noting that the tourists most receptive to French soft power are the Spanish.

In the rest of France, tourists are less exposed to dramas filmed in the regions, but the latter act more as an incentive:"88% [des] consider that [les] give a positive image of the region, making it interesting to visit, and 73% declare that the films or series they have seen have made them want to visit the region, including 28% very much so", says the CNC.

And for French tourists themselves, the majority of whom spend their vacations in the French territory, films and series shot in the region have a strong impact on their choice of destination. "One in four French people surveyed takes the plunge and decides to visit a film location after watching a particular film or series", says the public institution.
