Among the cult films shot in Paris, many think first of Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain(The Fabulous Destiny of Amélie Poulain). Released in 2001, Jean-Pierre Jeunet 's film has captivated generations of moviegoers, and put Paris firmly on the list of the world's most romantic cities. And since all the film's exteriors are shot on natural sets, you can very well go there, and take a stroll in the footsteps of these iconic locations, starting with the Colignon grocery store on Rue des Trois-Frères. In the film, Lucien, played by Jamel Debbouze, works in this grocery store, which still exists today and is actually called Marché de la Butte, a reference to the film.
The Montmartre district, where most of the film takes place, will be the heart of your walk, with the Lamarck-Caulincourt and Abbesses metros, and of course the Square Willette, where Amélie and Nino meet, not to mention the most obvious, the Butte Montmartre and the Sacré Cœur.
If you're in a playful mood, you can, like Amélie, make ricochets on the Canal Saint-Martin lock-bridge, near the Quai de Valmy. And if you too go to the cinema every Friday night to watch people kissing, head for Studio 28, rue Tholozé (18th), where films are still shown today.
Finally, if you prefer to party, you can take a trip to Le Clown de la République, a little costume store on boulevard Saint-Martin where Amélie buys a Zorro costume, before going to the photo booth. Open since 1900, this store is still the stuff of dreams for young and old alike.
In short, Paris is a huge playground where many films are shot every year, and many fans try to find the locations where their favorite movies were shot.
