La Semaine de la Critique, the exciting parallel section of the Cannes Film Festival 2024 that showcases first and second films, has just unveiled its new line-up, which will compete from May 15 to 23. Among the films selected is Locust, KEFF's first feature film .
Behind this intriguing pseudonym lies an American-Taiwanese screenwriter, director, musician and artist who grew up in Hong Kong. Presented as a world premiere at Critics' Week , Locust is not KEFF's first work to be unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2020, he presented his second short film, Taipei Suicide Story, at the Cinéfondation.
In Taiwan, Zhong-Han, a mute young man in his twenties, leads a double life. Working in a family-run restaurant by day, he runs a racket by night on behalf of local gangsters. But when a shady businessman takes over the restaurant, his family and friends are in danger, and Zhong-Han is forced to confront his own gang, as well as the corruption of his country's corridors of power.
