On June 27, 2024, Prime Video will unveil My Lady Jane, a new series blending history, fantasy, romance and comedy. Created by Gemma Burgess and directed by Jamie Babbit and Stefan Schwartz, the series offers a bold retelling of the story of Lady Jane Grey, the young Tudor noblewoman who was Queen of England for nine days before being beheaded in 1553. With a cast including Emily Bader, Edward Bluemel, Jordan Peters and Dominic Cooper, My Lady Jane promises an epic, offbeat adventure in which the damsel in distress saves her own fate.
My Lady Jane tells the story of Lady Jane Grey in an alternative universe where history takes a different turn. Instead of the familiar historical tragedy, this series rewrites the events to show Jane saved by herself. In this version, Jane is crowned queen and becomes the target of evil-doers who want her throne and her head. With a combination ofaction, fantasy, comedy and romance, My Lady Jane should offer an adventure full of twists and turns, where the young queen must navigate political intrigue and plots to preserve her kingdom and her true love.
My Lady Jane will appeal to fans of historical drama, fantasy and romantic comedy. Fans of series such as The Crown, Reign and The Tudors will appreciate this reinvention of history. The originality of My Lady Jane lies in its ability to blend different genres to offer a fresh and entertaining perspective on English history, while highlighting themes of courage, love and female emancipation.
With My Lady Jane, Prime Video offers a bold, entertaining series that rewrites history with a touch of fantasy and comedy. The series promises to captivate viewers with its engaging characters and thrilling storylines. Available from June 27, 2024, My Lady Jane should offer a must-see adventure for all those who love tales of courage, love and are not too attached to historical veracity.
Our opinion
My Lady Jane is the season 3 of The Bridgerton Chronicle we all wished we had! It's an up-to-the-minute series that shakes things up, where the young woman isn't a princess in distress, but fends for herself - and quite well, thanks to her intelligence and resourcefulness! We love the nods to our own times in this adaptation of the book by Gemma Burgess and Meredith Glynn, which offers a fantastic modern retelling of the story of Lady Jane Grey, a queen historically beheaded after 9 days on the throne.
Here, it's the women who lead and take their destiny into their own hands, even if plots are king! With a selfish mother à la Portia Featherington, who interferes in her children's lives, Jane Grey finds herself in an arranged marriage to a man with a bad reputation who lives only by night, Guilford Dudley. While he hides a secret she'll discover soon enough, their relationship evolves through rocky adventures and intimate conversations, with incredible chemistry between the actors.
The fantastic aspect comes from two peoples living in the same territory, but one of whom is magical, a change in history that effectively recalls the rivalries and persecutions between Catholics and Protestants. As for theBritish and sometimes crudehumor, it comes mainly from the story's narrator, whose remarks never fail to trigger laughter, even in the most tense situations.
It's hard to say whether there will be a sequel to this offbeat adventure, as the following books are based on other Jane stories, namely Jane Eyre and Calamity Jane, but given its success on the platform, the creators may well invent future stories of Jane and Guilford versus the dreaded Mary Ire from scratch.
In short, if you're looking for pure historical accuracy, this isn't the series for you, but if you like impossible romances, epic adventures with a pinch of fantasy in a medieval universe, you may well fall in love with this adaptation, which doesn't take itself too seriously, but offers quality entertainment.
