Dune 3, based on Frank Herbert's novel Messiah, will begin shooting in early 2026, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Denis Villeneuve, who is directing this latest installment, plans to give the film a unique identity, different from the first two. Scheduled for release in France on December 16, 2026.

Fans of the Dune universe will have to wait a little longer. Following the critical and commercial success of Dune: Part II, Denis Villeneuve is preparing a third installment, adapted from Frank Herbert's novel Messiah. Shooting will start in 2026, and the French release is scheduled for December 16, 2026. In a recent interview, Villeneuve revealed that this film will mark the end of the saga for him, while making it clear that this new project will be very different from the previous installments.

Messiah, published in 1969, takes place twenty years after the events of the first volume, and concludes the story arc of Paul Atreides, played on screen by Timothée Chalamet. This latest installment explores Paul's moral and spiritual dilemmas as he becomes Emperor of the Known Universe, while confronting the political and religious conspiracies that threaten his reign.

Dune 3 is aimed at a science-fiction audience, especially fans of the Dune saga and the literary works of Frank Herbert. According to Denis Villeneuve, this installment will not be a simple continuation of the first two films, but a work with its own identity, a distinct cinematic approach. Fans of deep storytelling, combining political intrigue and philosophical reflection, will be particularly drawn to this film. Messiah 's more introspective and spiritual character should offer a different experience to the first two opuses, which focus on epic and universe-building.

Dune 3, or Dune: Messiah, will mark the end of Denis Villeneuve's trilogy, scheduled for release in December 2026. The film promises to offer an epic, introspective conclusion to the Paul Atreides saga, while exploring new philosophical and cinematic directions. Fans can expect a faithful adaptation, but also a unique experience, distinct from previous installments.
