Director Diego Céspedes will unveil his film The Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo (La misteriosa mirada del flamenco) in the Un Certain Regard category at the Cannes Film Festival 2025, a selection that highlights young cinema, a cinema of formal research, very universalist, from all over the world.
Featuring Tamara Cortes, Matías Catalán and Paula Dinamarca, this is the Chilean director's first film, although he has already proved his worth with various short films. With this feature, he is competing for the Caméra d'Or.
At the press conference revealing most of the official selection, Thierry Frémaux, general delegate of the Cannes Film Festival, explained: "This is a first film. Diego Céspedes has gone through the various Cannes Festival channels (residencies, Cinéfondation), but also the San Sebastian Festival for his short films. This will be his first official selection, in the Un Certain Regard section."
The Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo will be unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival 2025. The release date in French cinemas is not yet known.
Synopsis: 1982. As an unknown disease begins to spread in a small mining town in the Chilean desert, gay men are accused of transmitting it through their eyes when they fall in love. Twelve-year-old Lidia, the only girl in the community, sets out to find out the truth.
