The game features all the key elements that have made it such a success since 1992: bloody battles, special moves, the famous Fatalities... Familiar characters from the saga are also featured, including Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Liu Kang, Johnny Cage, Kitana, Kung Lao, Kenshi, Mileena and Shang Tsung.
A story mode plunges us into a never-before-seen tale, recounting the origins of the rivalries between the game's fighters. An online multiplayer mode lets you take on your friends. This new opus also features an Invasion mode: in the form of a board game, players can unlock new accessories, resources or equipment by winning battles or mini-games. According to the PlayStation Blog, the Invasion mode will be updated regularly to keep the rewards fresh.
Mortal Kombat 1 also slightly modifies the combat system: assistants are available during battles, to help you briefly during the action. The assistant does not replace the fighter, but can grab and throw objects at the opponent, extend combo attacks...
