In recent years, Gibert, the famous second-hand bookshop, has suffered a number of setbacks. After protests, strikes and then the Covid-19 pandemic, the chain had to close several of its bookshops, including the historic one in the Saint-Michel district. Despite this, Gibert is determined to reinvent itself, and has announced the opening of a concept store called"Quinze.bis", on September 30, at 15bis boulevard Saint-Denis.
Behind the store, a hybrid meeting place that will host"music, wellness, crafts, decor, gifts, art and, of course, books". In almost 550m2 and on 2 floors, you'll be able to meet authors and artists, listen to bands and musicians, take yoga classes or even take cooking or pottery classes. It's an astonishing concept store, more akin to Fnac than to the habits of Gibert customers. But don't panic, books will still have pride of place, with 45,000 references in literature, comics and manga, children's books, well-being, paperbacks, tourism and fine books, human sciences and after-school books.
The development of this concept store is part of the group's management strategy, which aims to take advantage of the second-hand market, which is booming in France and is part of the brand's DNA. Online sales are also being developed, with theGibert application enabling books to be resold in the same way as in the store.
