Fancy discovering and testing breaking, a dance style better known as break dance, selected as an Olympic discipline for the Paris 2024 Olympics ? On Wednesday, February 23, from 2.30pm to 5pm, theFrench Breaking team is offering a free demonstration and initiation for all the curious, at Cosec Pablo Neruda, in Les Mureaux, Yvelines.
The discipline made its appearance at the Youth Olympic Games in 2018 and was a great success there. In 2024, at the Paris Olympic Games, breaking will make its grand entrance as an additional sport, like surfing, skateboarding and climbing. The French will have the opportunity to support the national team in two events, one for men and one for women, with spectacular battles, to win breaking's first Olympic title, on thePlace de la Concorde, redeveloped to accommodate urban sports.
But where does breaking come from? This style of dance developed in the United States during the 1970s, in the Bronx district. Representing hip hop culture, the sport is distinguished by its acrobatic dimension, its floor figures and the principle of battles. Since the 1990s, the discipline has become popular with the general public thanks to international battles.
