Would you like to discover an unusual place and do some sport at the same time? Then head for the Climbing District climbing gym, close to the Saint-Lazare train station, in the 8th arrondissement of Paris. This original Climbing District gym is very special in that it's housed in a former chapel (desecrated, we assure you)! A truly atypical environment, steeped in history, for climbing a wall 13m high.
Climbing District and its network of gyms dedicated to bouldering and route climbing currently comprises five sites spread across Paris and its inner suburbs. Capitalizing on the growing popularity of the sport, it is planning to expand not only in Paris but also in the Île-de-France region, and even beyond national borders.
At the Saint-Lazare spot, you can learn to climb in complete safety, right in the heart of the capital. The whole place is dedicated to rope climbing. If you're not too keen on bouldering, this is the spot for you. As you climb one of the 32 rope-climbing corridors on reels, take time to admire the beauty of the chapel and its ceiling, once the library of the French National Institute of Intellectual Property.
But Climbing District isn't just about climbing, as there's also a coworking space , and a high-quality cultural program, including a film festival, music, a coffee shop and even a vegetable market! It's the ideal place to work out, but also to take time for yourself, alone or with others!
Yoga sessions, pilates, chess tournaments and special evenings are just some of the activities on offer. Henri d'Anterroches, the entrepreneur behind the concept, emphasizes the aim of these spaces: to create dynamic social centers where people can play sports, work and forge links. He particularly emphasizes the difficulty of making new friends in an urban environment, noting that his customers are predominantly between the ages of 18 and 35.
To telework, you'll need to pay three euros to set up. All you have to do is go upstairs and take a seat in one of the chapel's various alcoves. Each one is different, with electrical outlets, tables and chairs, or armchairs and sofas. We take advantage of the coffee shop that's waiting for us. Fresh juices, organic teas and coffees, local beers and a range of products from local producers. The spot is open from 7am to midnight on weekdays and from 8am on weekends. A day pass costs €18 and a monthly pass €58. Note that monthly or annual memberships give access to yoga, pilates and muscle-building classes.
