Did you know that the 18th arrondissement is home to one of the oldest swimming pools in Paris? Inaugurated in 1896, the Hébert pool was originally an open-air bathing spot that welcomed swimmers only in summer. Named after Émile Hébert, a renowned French sculptor and engraver, its structure is typical of the late 19th century, with simple lines and robust materials.
But while the Hébert pool 's history dates back a long way, it has been modernized ever since! In 1988, it underwent a major transformation to become an indoor pool, open all year round. This change preserved the original architectural structure while adding modern equipment.
Today, swimmers discover a large 33-meter pool, ideal for long-distance swimming, as well as a second, smaller pool suitable for children and beginners. A fitness area is also available for those wishing to combine swimming with muscle-strengthening exercises.
The pool also offers regular swimming lessons for all ages and levels, as well as aquagym sessions. As an added bonus, the Hébert pool 's glass roof doubles as a sunroof, providing bathers with an outdoor pool and solarium!
