We almost didn't see the Women's World Cup broadcast on French television! The competition, which doesn't attract as many fans as the men's event, also has the disadvantage of being played between New Zealand and Australia, on the other side of the world, resulting in a huge time difference that doesn't suit TV channels. In the end, France Télévisions and M6 agreed to broadcast the French team's matches from July 20 to August 20, 2023.
Fans of the French team were able to watch the French players' matches during the group stages, between 2am and 2pm. Thanks to their first-place finish in the group, Les Bleues went on to play the Moroccans in the Round of 16, outscoring them by a massive four goals to nil. They meet again in the quarter-finals this Saturday, against Australia, one of the competition's hosts. You can support them from a distance on Saturday August 12 at 9 a.m., a little earlier than usual, on the M6 channel!
In all, the France TV group is offering 32 matches on its channels, including half of the Round of 16, the final and the opening match, while M6 and W9 will be broadcasting the same number of matches. Hopefully, French fans will be out in force on the other side of the world, as the Australians will be playing at home! The two teams met on July 14 for a warm-up match, which we lost by one goal. But the game's not over yet, and if France win, we're off to the semi-finals against England or Colombia!
