Is chess an elitist game? Not at Blitz Society, the only chess bar in Paris (and France!), which aims to make the discipline accessible and fun for all generations. In an intimate lounge atmosphere in the heart of the Saint-Germain district, you can learn to play, improve your skills or take on your opponents, while enjoying a meal with friends and listening to jazz.
The place was inspired by New York squares, where chess tables were set up, accessible to the homeless and passers-by alike. Anyone could play a game together and take their time, regardless of their opponent's social standing. At Blitz, the principle is similar: chess brings together all players, strangers and friends alike, and you can even meet the best players in the capital!
Choose one of the 27 tables with their green and white inlaid trays, and sharpen your brains! But you also need a little fuel to keep up, so you order a board of charcuterie or quality cheeses to share, a fine wine or a beer, and off you go to face a new adversary. All to the sound of jazz that's particularly suited to the relaxed atmosphere, taking us back to the 1930s. Photos of illustrious players from the past on the wall convince us to set the timer. Every week, the bar organizes events and tournaments to keep the most assiduous players busy!
Blitz is also chess for all ages! Recently, the bar opened its Blitz Academy, aimed at children aged 6 to 13, to teach them the basics or perfect their game, but also improve their concentration skills and play as a family! The aim of the academy is to teach children how to play chess in just 5 lessons, either through an introductory course or through advanced classes led by a professional chess master.
How about a game?
