It's a must-see, a gateway to the world of classical ballet, and a guilty pleasure you'll never want to miss: Swan Lake, the famous fairytale "white ballet", is back on stage at the Palais des Congrès on June 21, 22 and 23, 2019, with Universal Ballet, choreographed by Oleg Vinogradov.
Based in Seoul, Universal Ballet has been one of the most prestigious classical ballet companies since its creation in 1984. It comprises 70 dancers from a dozen countries around the world, from Europe to Asia to the United States.
The story is that of the white swan, or rather, of Princess Odette, who is trapped in the animal's skin by a spell. She falls in love with Prince Siegfried, then of marriageable age... The sorcerer Rothbart, who is behind the spell, presents his daughter Odile, the black swan, to the prince instead of Odette. The resemblance is uncanny and deceives the prince, who then promises to marry her in court. The deception is discovered, however, when Odile bursts into the wedding party...
A ballet renowned for its choreography (its superb solos and duets, and in particular its unmistakable pas de quatre), it is perhaps even more so for its score, by Tchaikovsky, a true masterpiece.
Oleg Vinogradov has chosen to explore the twists and turns of eternal love with a ballet in two acts, based on the original version by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov. Here, Swan Lake combines the harmony and grace of Asian cultural thought with the strength and beauty of Western classical dance.
