Founded in 1993, Café Oscar celebrated its 30th anniversary last year. Café Oscar is the oldest comedy club in Paris. Today, the comedy club still welcomes stand-up professionals and comedians developing their careers. Located 155 rue Montmartre in Paris's 2nd arrondissement, Café Oscar is a must-see in Paris.
The oldest comedy club in Paris was founded by Monika, who has owned the place for over 30 years. Originally from Poland, Monika came to France to learn the French language and fell in love with a small Italian restaurant. She immediately bought it and turned it into a comedy club, naming it after her father Oscar. Monika was a regular at comedy clubs, as her father had one in Warsaw during the communist era.
Café Oscar, located at the end of a small tree-lined courtyard, has seduced many with its Parisian charm. It's open Tuesday to Friday and Sunday, and admission is free! You must, however, purchase a drink and leave your bags and coats in the checkroom. Café Oscar offers 3 evening slots from 7pm and 2 Sunday slots from 5pm. The artists performing on the stand-up stage are paid by the hat at the end of the session.
Not everyone can make it to the Café Oscar stage, however. Comedians wishing to take part must pass open auditions scheduled every Thursday and then win the monthly best-of. They can then come and perform on the Café Oscar stage.
French comedians such as Paul Mirabel, Fabrice Eboué, Verino, Blanche Gardin and Roman Frayssinet have already passed through the Café Oscar. Who knows, maybe you'll get a sneak preview of the new star of one-man shows...
Café Oscar is located at 155 rue de Montmartre in the 2nd arrondissement of Paris.
