Les étés de la danse: Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in Paris in July 2017

Every summer, the festival Les étés de la danse invites an international company to spend a few weeks in Paris. For this 2017 edition, from July 4 to July 22, 2017, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater will perform at La Seine Musicale.

To celebrate its 13th edition, Les étés de la Danse takes over La Seine Musicale in Boulogne for the first time. The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater managed by Robert Battle will come back this year after performing for the festival in 2012 and 2015.

This exceptional American company, recognized worldwide for its high-level dancers and the diversity of its choreographies has been created in March 1958 after a legendary performance at the New York 92nd Street Y Theater. Managed by Alvin Ailey and a group of young African-American dancers, the performance changes the way we look at American dance forever.

Since then, the company’s fame has not stop growing. Alvin Ailey has always managed to diversify his repertoire and before he died in 1989, he named Judith Jamison as his successor. For almost 21 years, the legendary female dancer offered Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater an unparalleled success.
