Anton Chekhov is credited with transforming modern literature and theater with his spare, naturalistic style. He began his career writing humorous short stories for newspapers, but soon made a name for himself with richer, more nuanced works. Among his most famous contributions to the theater are The Seagull, Uncle Vanya and The Three Sisters, plays that illustrate his ability to capture the depth of human emotion with simplicity and realism.
