William Faulkner'sAbsalon, Absalon! follows the rise and fall of Thomas Sutpen, a man determined to build a family empire in the American South before the Civil War. Through different narrators, the novel explores his overweening ambition, his marriages, his illegitimate children and the tragic conflicts that destroyed his dynasty. Faulkner tackles the themes of memory, racism and the scars left by history, all in a complex, fragmented narrative, adapted and directed by Séverine Chavrier at the Théâtre National de l'Odéon .
Trained in classical music, Séverine Chavrier has integrated this art form into her theatrical work, creating shows combining text, music and visual arts. She has directed the Centre Dramatique National Orléans/Centre-Val de Loire and, since July 2023, has been at the helm of the Comédie de Genève. Her work is distinguished by a sensitive and daring exploration of profound themes, as exemplified by her adaptation of Faulkner 'sAbsalon, Absalon! lasting 5 hours with intermission, which was a standout at the Avignon Festival, and is now finally coming to Paris at the Théâtre National de l'Odéon .
