Peter Weiss 's novel Aesthetics of the Renaissance follows the initiatory journey of a young man engaged in the anti-fascist struggle, through Berlin, Spain and Stockholm. Along the way, punctuated by encounters with various historical figures, including Bertolt Brecht, he ponders the possibility of communist unity. Conceived in 2023 with Groupe 47 of the Strasbourg National Theatre School and members of the company, this stage adaptation brings fifteen actors together on the stage of the Théâtre National de l'Odéon .

Exiled to Sweden during the Second World War, Peter Weiss developed a committed body of work, blending history, politics and art. His documentary theater, notably Marat/Sade (1964), explores the tensions between revolution and oppression. His monumental novel The Aesthetics of Resistance, published in three volumes from 1976 to 1982, explores the anti-fascist struggle and the role of art in emancipation. It is now on view at the Théâtre National de l'Odéon, in an adaptation by Sylvain Creuzevault .
