From 3 May to 18 September 2017, the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle welcomes the legendary "National Geographic" magazine within its Mineralogy and Geology Gallery for a great exhibition featuring a hundred photographs. Published for the first time in 1888 thanks to a small group of explorers, "National Geographic" displays pictures to celebrate over a century of travels. And it is wonderful.

Who could have imagined such a success story? 125 years ago, National Geographic was published for the first time and now it has become one of the most iconic titles in the media industry. Released in 75 countries, into 33 languages and in 36 different editions, the most famous travel magazine is now exhibited at the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle to celebrate its anniversary with great pomp.

National Geographic’s signature is of course its yellow frame on the cover, but the exceptional quality of its photographs is its most appealing feature. This is the reason why 100 legendary or forgotten pictures have been selected for this wonderful exhibition taking place in the heart of the mineralogy and geology gallery, a place usually closed to the public.

125 years of travels across the world, here is the wide program for this great pictorial recap. Thanks to an immersive scenography, we walk from ocean abysses to astronomical discoveries thanks to lovely changes of atmosphere. We also encounter with wild predators, animals about to disappear, mistreated people...

We quickly come to an observation: "The better you know the planet, the more you want to protect it", French National Geographic editor in chief and curator of the exhibition, Jean-Pierre Vrignaud says so well. Because it is right, going toward the other means first and foremost understanding how and why daily life can be affected by environmental problems.

Right in the current climate, so you should definitely go!
