The Musée de la Grande Guerre's re-enactment weekend is a must for all history buffs. Just imagine: over 300 First World War enthusiasts, dressed in period costume and assembled in a bivouac, take us back in time to 1914, 50 kilometers from Paris.
For a whole weekend, the 14-18 re-enactors play their part, giving visitors, especially children, the opportunity to learn more about daily life during the Great War, in a fun and lively way. The event takes visitors through the daily lives of French, German and American soldiers, as well as the role of dovecotes, cooks and nurses, in a festive atmosphere.
The experience is totally adapted to children, who can more easily immerse themselves in this chapter of history, far from the books and manuals often disliked by young people. Several associations are working together to make this weekend a real success, and a highlight to be shared by enthusiasts.
On Saturday, September 2 and Sunday, September 3, 2023, we're off to the Musée de la Grande Guerre in Meaux, to take part in this must-see event that's still as impressive as ever. Reservations are strongly recommended for this re-enactment.
This event takes place in the museum grounds. Feel free to explore the museum, too, and admire its extensive collection of historical artifacts. Free shuttle buses run between the town's railway station and the museum. All in all, a great weekend!
