An artistic plunge into trans identities... This is what La Gaîté Lyrique has in store for you with its TRANS*GALACTIQUE exhibition, from October 18, 2024 to February 9, 2025. Through photography and video, the exhibition highlights international artists who question human relationships, notions of gender, and the way we identify with the world. An exhibition that invites us to imagine new perspectives in an ever-changing society.
Curated by Superpartners (artists SMITH and Nadège Piton), Frank Lamy and Balthazar Heisch, the exhibition is inspired by the eponymous 2020 issue of The Eyes magazine. Fifteen artists, including Cassils, Brandon Gercara and Zanele Muholi, explore alternative ways of existing beyond gender binarities, creating queer, resistant and ecological narratives.
The photographic and video works on display are visual manifestos celebrating the plurality and emancipation of trans identities. As the curators point out: " It's about being visible, about standing together, about being actors and authors of one's own image ".
La Gaîté Lyrique, in partnership with The Eyes, intends to give visibility to minority narratives and contemporary struggles for the recognition of plural identities. Against a global backdrop of rising intolerance, this exhibition encourages us to reconsider our relationship with others and with society, paving the way for more inclusive and supportive alliances. TRANS*GALACTIQUE is an invitation to escape into a creative cosmos where every being is free to reinvent his or her identity.
