Manuscripts, letters, drawings, models, photographs… Here are all the things you’ll see in the new collection of the Opera library-museum in Paris! This documentary richness tells about how complete the task of a stage director is, who is the person working on all the different fronts and in constant exchange with a large team of costume makers, technicians, actors, etc.
It’s time to honor the incredible Patrice Chéreau we all know very well for his work on theater stages. Making the best of the revival of his staging of “De La Maison des Morts” by Janáček in November 2017 at Paris Opéra Bastille, the Opera library-museum aims at focusing on the stager’s work particularity when he works for the opera, this giant machine where we have to take into account even more aspects and constrains than in a theater.
Because here, stagers have to direct singers and collaborating with music directors as well as with light creators and costume makers, Patrice Chéreau’s work is wide and fascinating.
