Pierre de Vallombreuse (born in 1962) is a French photographer and famous for travelling the world, camera in hand and capturing the daily life of over 40 remote ethnic groups. Among them, at the far end of the world, the one of the Palawan’s. This series of photographs is now honored by an exhibition displayed within the Musée de l’Homme.
He went about twenty times to the Palawan’s island, from the late 80’s to the 90’s. He followed the evolution of its inhabitants, made every effort to seize their relationship to nature. He also witnessed a major transformation, the one of the regular coming and passing of migrants on their lands, a road being built in the 90’s.
So, these farmers and hunter-gatherers went for the almost total autarky to a way of life exposed to meetings. And Pierre de Vallombreuse’s lens was here to record this change… Gripping!
