Do you know the Daimyos? These governors who ruled Japan with a masterful hand between the 12th and 19th centuries are the subject of an exhibition proposed by the Musée Guimet (MNAAG), in partnership with the Palais de Tokyo, from February 16 to May 13, 2018.
An exceptional array of armor, 33 in all, from French collections, both public and private, and presented in two spaces: theHôtel Heidelbach and the 4th floor rotunda. Fabulous ornaments - textiles, helmets, weapons - accompany the presentation of these armors, " associated with the Japanese warrior imagination ".
In two major chapters, the collection focuses on " the expression of the warrior's power and omnipotence ", immersing visitors in " the fascination of a historical military fresco, playing on the trappings of power and the notoriety of the great Japanese feudatories ".
The exhibition then continues at the Palais de Tokyo, in an unprecedented partnership, through the collection of Japanese armor owned by artist Georges Henry Longly. As part of the Discorde, Fille de la Nuit season, this collection plays with the omnipresent light, changing visitors' perception of the space. Two unique experiences, ideal for discovering the vast history of Japan.
Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
