He’s one of the most famous Dutch painters in the History of Art: Frans Hals (1582/83-1666) marked the Golden Century with his splendid portraits that equal in quality and finesse those painted with contemporary, Rembrandt.
For its summer exhibition, the excellent Fondation Custodia gathers the most beautiful family portraits. Especially “The Van Campen Family in a landscape” that measures about 4-m (13.12ft) long. the latter has been divided into three parts across the years; for the very first time, it will be presented reconstituted!
You can also observe up close how Frans Hals combines very dynamic postures with expressive faces (which pink cheeks have something particularly delighting!). The whole is painted with spirited touches of colors that aroused – centuries after their creations – the admiration of impressionist painters.
Well, very beautiful portraits and most of all, a rare occasion to discover Frans Hals’s work, rather unknown in France where his most remarkable works have been kept in the Louvre’s collection. To see!
