Jeremy Shaw, presents a total and innovative artistic experience at the Centre Pompidou. The artist's creations are part of the"Mutations / Créations" program, which turns the Centre Pompidou into a technological laboratory. Interrupted by the coronavirus epidemic, the exhibition resumes on July 1 and runs until July 27, 2020.
After 3 editions highlighting new forms of artistic expression through 3d printing, computer languages and the relationship between the living and the artificial. This time, "Mutations / Creations" is divided into 2 major exhibitions :"Neurones, les intelligences simulées" and Jeremy Shaw'sexhibition Cathartic Technology.
This is the Canadian artist's first major museum exhibition. Based in Berlin, he first explored music. Jeremy Shaw first came to prominence as Circlesquare, an acclaimed DJ in the golden age of techno. It was the first art form he explored. It is this music that guides the entire exhibition.
Let yourself be drawn into Jeremy Shaw's deliriously colorful world, as he spins our heads off amidst giant screens and supercharged dancers.
To give you an idea of Jeremy Shaw's universe, here's an extract from Liminals, the artist's latest project, which forms part of the exhibition at the Centre Pompidou:
Cathartic technology tells the story of humanity's future. In this future, human DNA has been modified by technology. To preserve the essence of a kind of pure humanity in a brain assistant. It is this human spirituality in a box that is the focus of the exhibition.
To tell this story, Jeremy Shaw uses a variety of artistic forms. First and foremost, music guides 7 screens representing 7 groups of people, from the 1950s to the 1990s. Their portraits, fragmented and distorted by technology, gradually come together in a collective dance. The spectator is also an actor in this communion.
Jeremy Shaw offers us a futuristic reportage, in which humanity is modified, altered and enhanced by technology. We are immersed in the underground cultures of the future, where algorithms, neuroscience, drugs and spirituality intermingle.
Faced with this dystopia, we lose our bearings in the present, with many questions in our minds about our possible future, and the possibilities of technology. An adventure not to be missed!
Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
