The Centre Pompidou is giving a voice to committed artists from the countries of the South in a major exhibition entitled Global(e) Résistance, a fine proposal that highlights works acquired by the museum over the last decade. The exhibition tells the story of artists' different paths in life, but always with the same determination to fight injustice.
In the museum's graphic art gallery, the tour is punctuated by slogans printed on the walls, based on works by Barthélémy Toguo. The project highlights political protest at a time of decolonization and the collapse of communist ideologies after 1989. It then turns to the struggle against gender inequalityand gender issues.
Manifesto works open the exhibition: Barthélémy Toguo's sculpture Rédemption, followed by works by Guy Ben Ner and Khalil Rabah evoking the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and Teresa Margolles echoing the Mexican border. Artist Yin Xiuzhen evokes armed conflict, and Nadia Kaabi-Linke, the wanderings of migrants and the homeless. In all, some sixty artists are featured.
More than just an exhibition, the Centre Pompidou presents a manifesto. A lounge and documentary showcases await us at the entrance to level 4. They also present the commitments of certain activist "places" based in France.
In addition to this exhibition, the ticket entitles visitors to the exhibitions Christo et Jeanne-Claude (until October 19, 2020), Prix Marcel Duchamp 2020 (from October 7, 2020 to January 4, 2021) Martin Barré (from October 14, 2020 to January 4, 2021) and Matisse, comme un roman (October 21, 2020 to February 22, 2021).
Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
