Calling all art and beautiful flower fans! The Fondation Cartier devotes an exhibition to British artist Damien Hirst called Cherry Blossoms [Cerisiers en Fleurs] running from July 6, 2021 to January 2, 2022. An exhibition giving pride of place to his latest painting series, the result of two years of working on his own in his London-based studio.
Started right after the sculpture exhibition – Treasures from the Wreck of the Unbelievable – in Venice in 2017 and that kept him busy for about 10 years, this series enables him to find “the spontaneity of the pictorial movement” again, something he lost sight of and that skilled visitors will find in the “fallibility” of his hand. Ten years without touching a brush regularly is pretty long indeed… But it’s like bicycle, you can’t forget it!
A style between pointillism, impressionism and action painting enabling Damien Hirst to reinterpret “with some merry irony the traditional and popular topic of landscape painting” mixing “thick layers and spray-painting”. And works entirely covered in “bright and saturated colors” taking curious visitors to a total immersion in a “vegetal world balancing between figurative and abstraction”. A genuine kind of completion for the artist in his own research on color, beauty, perception and the role of the painter in all this.
A wonderful exhibition to see asap! Let’s save the date, friends, shall we?
