She was Sissi, Leni, Annemarie, Rosalie, Helene, La Califfa… She was the actress revered by all, all along her career: the Cinémathèque pays tribute to Romy Schneider from March 16 to July 31, 2022 in an eponymous exhibition.

She played with the greatest and had the greatest roles: Romy Schneider goes back in the limelight thanks to the Cinémathèque tribute exhibition running from March 16 to July 31, 2022. Forty years after her death, the actress still holds a royal spot in the history of cinema.

Born German in 1938, then naturalized French, Romy Schneider managed to show all her talent as an actress to cross borders and make herself a name. Her impressive filmography (over sixty movies in only 30 years) is unanimously hailed: she is the first woman to have been awarded the César Award for best actress.

The Cinémathèque wishes to take us back on to her life and uncommon career as she became a genuine myth. The “Romy Schneider” exhibition returns on the actress’s debuts, as she was just 15 in her first role, until her greatest successes alongside Alain Cavalier, Claude Sautet, Luchino Visconti, Orson Welles, Otto Preminger…

The exhibition gathers abstracts from her movies, interviews, making-off of movies she took part in, photographs, texts from her diary… The museum brings Romy Schneider back to life through her words, whether written, filmed or recorded. Archives show different facets of the personality of this international star. But they all show the artist’s contagious glee of making such a job.

The Cinémathèque also provides some room to Schneider’s loves, passions, eventful private life, marked by tragic moments, and significant encounters, and stories worthy of the movies she starred in.

You cannot leave the exhibition without wanting to binge the entire filmography of this incredible woman. The Cinémathèque shines a light on the actress and the woman she was behind. This oh-so atypical and brace career commands respects and embellishes the talents of this determined artist who managed to stand up for herself through her hard work and will. An admirable woman!

Come and get acquainted with this huge star, this still modern icon that sill lives in memories and hearts of cinema fans.

One can remain eternally young if, each day, one grows rich by marvelous moments.” – Romy Schneider
