But what's this huge bamboo liner at La Défense? Aqua Mater is a unique 1,000 m2 exhibition combining photography, architecture and music in the exceptional setting of Simón Vélez's Amazonian Guada pavilion.
Colombian architect Simón Vélez creates complex bamboo structures .His architecture is rooted in indigenous materials, drawn from nature and minimally transformed.
The program includes a sensory and spiritual experience. Imagine subdued lighting, music and sound composed by François-Bernard Mâche, and a tropical mist immersing you in an atmosphere of serenity . It' s a unique and exceptional setting for questioning and raising awareness of the environmental issues of today and tomorrow.
The exhibition presents the photographic works of artist Sebastião Salgado, who takes a look at the theme of water. Both a source of life and a threatened resource, water is becoming increasingly scarce as global warming accelerates. From the Amazon to Iceland, from the Arctic to the Sahara, Sebastião Salgado's work opens our eyes to this reality.
Through this exhibition, the artist offers us a peaceful space in which to reflect on and raise awareness of the need to preserve the world's water resources.
The combination of the Gradua pavilion, an ode to the fragility of water, and the work of artist Sebastião Salgado was therefore ideal. The Aqua Matter exhibition was designed to travel from city to city, opening up the exhibition to as many people as possible.
