Take a trip back in time! That's what the Musée de l' Homme is offering you with its latest exhibition, Arts and Prehistory, on view from November 16, 2022 to May 22, 2023. More specifically, the exhibition features masterpieces ofprehistoric art from all over the world, retracing"the power of human creativity since the dawn of time".
The Musée de l'Homme unveils a wealth of archaeological treasures, and provides audiovisual and digital installations for a more interactive and visitor-friendly experience.
Frescoes from the Lascaux and Chauvet caves, Paleolithic Venuses, decorated tools, animals sculpted in ivory, rock or bone... In all, over 90 original pieces of prehistoric art are presented to visitors, along with hundreds of digital images of paintings and engravings, for a unique journey to the heart of time immemorial. The exhibition also aims to show the"unsuspected diversity of art forms and expressions".
Among the most emblematic works on display are Lespugues' Venus, Laugerie-Basse's Shameless Venus and La Madeleine's Mammoth, all from the museum's collections. To illuminate these cave paintings and pieces of cave art, works inspired by this period by Louise Bourgeois, Brassaï andYves Klein are also on display.
