The Domaine de Sceaux celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2023! But how come? The most attentive or knowledgeable among you know that the estate was created at the end of the 17th century, at the request of Colbert. The place has had many ups and downs. In 1923, the Hauts-de-Seine department finally acquired the place, allowing its restoration and opening to the public.
It is this"rebirth" that the Domaine is celebrating today, through an exhibition organized from March 10 to July 9, 2023. Entitled 1923. The Domaine de Sceaux. The origins of a renaissance, this exhibition (installed in the former stables of the Domaine) brings together numerous archival documents, posters, photographs, drawings and paintings that tell the story of the place during this last eventful century. The exhibition traces thehistory of the estate from its first major transformation to the 1950s.
Restoration, opening to the public, inauguration of a museum and new elements in the park, German occupation during the Second World War, installation of the American army during the liberation in France, reopening to the public, new restorations... This Domain never stops evolving, according to the great historical events that cross the area.
Between each period, artists wander through the spaces of the domain, immortalizing - each in their own way - the life cycles of this lively place. It is these testimonies of the past that give us the opportunity today (and tomorrow!) to see the evolution of the place at each stage. These images from another time allow us to better understand the works and restorations that have been carried out.
The Domaine de Sceaux is a real green setting and welcomes many walkers. Come and discover its history with this anniversary exhibition!
