For its new exhibition of the year, the Musée Cernuschi pays tribute to art historian and collector Harley Preston (1940-2015). From Friday, April 14 to Sunday, July 30, 2023, the sublime Parisian museum nestled at the gates of the Parc Monceau offers visitors a beautiful artistic dive to discover Chinese and Japanese ceramics and paintings, bequeathed by Harley Preston.
Entitled " Painting and ceramics in dialogue: around the Chinese and Japanese collections bequeathed by Harley Preston ", this exhibition is likely to seduce the eyes of Asian art lovers. In 2018, Harley Preston, a great collector, decided to bequeath to the Cernuschi Museum nearly 200 objects, including Chinese ceramics from the Song dynasty (960-1279), Japanese ceramics from the Mingei movement, and Chinese paintings from the 20th century.
This spring and summer, the Musée Cernuschi has chosen to pay tribute to Harley Preston and to offer an exhibition that takes the collector's point of view.
Through an itinerary divided into two sections, visitors are invited to discover Song ceramics, but also Chinese paintings, made between the 1960s and the 1990s and whose theme is exclusively landscape or flowers and birds.
Also on the program of this exhibition? Japanese Nihonga painting, whose style is characterized by the use of specific materials and highly technical processes, as well as Mingei ceramics, whose movement was founded by the Japanese philosopher, writer and collector Yanagi Sōetsu (1889-1961).
To admire this beautiful and rich collection, head to the Cernuschi Museum from April 14 to July 30, 2023.
