The Musée Yves Saint Laurent invites Claudia Wieser to Formes, a new exhibition combining art and fashion, from June 9, 2023 to January 14, 2024. In the iconic Avenue Marceau townhouse, works by the German artist are paired with some 40 haute-couture, ready-to-wear, accessories and sketches by the couturier, drawn from the museum's collections.
Yves Saint Laurent 's fascination with shapes began with the creation of his "Trapèze" line for Dior in 1958. Since then, the couturier has drawn many of his references from contemporary art movements- simple, geometric abstraction, constructivism and concrete art - to create abstract, colorful and sometimes exuberant compositions.
Her pictorial works, metamorphosed into textile pieces, find an echo in Claudia Wieser 's creations. The artist, herself inspired by great painters such as Kandinsky and Paul Klee, brings to life works that are both intuitive and precise, playing with geometric shapes, colors and textures to form aesthetic, harmonious installations.
The Musée Yves Saint Laurent thus offers a new artistic chapter, highlighting the accuracy and precision of Claudia Wieser's work, as well as the creativity and originality of Yves Saint Laurent. Theexhibition offers an immersion into their creative worlds, where geometric construction will immerse visitors in a multitude of colorful curves, right angles, spheres and broken lines.
Formes is an ode to modernity and creativity, where geometry andabstraction take center stage. The exhibition reveals a sublime dialogue between two artists with a marginal vision, illustrating the modernity of one era in another.
