On the one hand, the inventiveness and fantasy of the drawing, the irony or the caricature of a chosen piece of news. On the other hand, the sometimes brutal reality of photography, the image that shows us the daily life at the end of the world without any blush... And in the middle, two artists who come together to present the world to us in their own way. The Musée de l'Homme is hosting the exhibition Plantu - Reza, Regards croisés, from May 11 to December 31, 2023.
This exhibition is a marriage between the two men, a marriage between drawing and photography, between their two realities, their two visions of the world. Plantu and Reza create works with four hands, creating a result always surprising.
Each with his own sensitivity, the two men return to the great events that have marked the last decades. The mixture of styles is surprising, but gives more strength to this dialogue. The irony of the draftsman denounces the reality captured by the photojournalist, the shock of the photos is mitigated by the touch ofhumor of the drawing.
Freedom, wars, access to resources, education, natural disasters, welcoming migrants... The two men confront their vision of the world, agree or clash on these subjects that have punctuated our news.
In this series of works, Plantu and Reza tell their story, their world. But, beyond their disagreements, what we find in this exhibition is the common desire to preserve their freedom of speech, their freedom to inform, despite the threats.
A powerful exhibition, which takes us back to the great events of the last decades, to be found at the Musée de l'Homme.
