The Musée de la Poste 's collections are astonishingly rich in history... And they have inspired artist Anaïs Tondeur, who has created an entire photographic fiction around these artistic objects. This fiction is presented in the form of an unusual exhibition, installed within the permanent collections, from June 3, 2023 to April 8, 2024.
Come to the Musée de la Poste to discover the exhibition Un pli du bord du monde, and plunge into the poetic and curious universe of this unique French artist.
In this narrative exhibition, we embark on a long journey, alongside a very special piece of mail. What would happen if this envelope were to be sent along less traditional routes? What if it were to cross centuries and cities? These questions are answered in the works created by Anaïs Tondeur. The artist imagines a journey full of mysteries, highlighting the collections and history of the Musée de la Poste, while promoting a moreenvironmentally-friendly approach to transport.
Three installations allow us to imagine the peregrinations of this fold, which passes through the Seine, La Courneuve and the outskirts of Paris. The mail travels in a ball from Moulins, meets the aeronauts in the balloon at La Villette, reveals the buried treasures of the Post Office, collects bits of nature found along the way...
This story encourages us to question the world around us, giving us a new vision, a new perspective. Thanks to this exhibition, young and old alike will also (re)discover the ancient practices of the Post Office, which has had to innovate and adapt to all technologies and means of transport, to circulate mail throughout France over the centuries.
It's a very special exhibition, and a must-see at the Musée de la Poste!
