Are you in Paris this summer? Why not take the opportunity to go to the beach? No, we're not talking about Paris Plage, but a more exotic destination... Well, almost. The change of scenery may not be there, but the humor is! Photographer Martin Parr is in the spotlight at Quai de la Photo. In a free exhibition, you'll discover many of the artist's shots of the beach and tourism.
Martin Parr is an English photographer known for his often ironic documentary images. The artist depicts the world around him, pointing out its contradictions and absurdities with his lens. His aim is to capture the real, the mundane, the often ignored, while adding a gently mocking edge.
Here, the photographer focuses on mass tourism, globalization and the excesses of consumer society, as seen through the eyes of vacationers. The exhibition Life's a beach reveals seaside resorts from all over the world, over more than 30 years of reportage.
Photo after photo, we can see the changes that have taken place, for the better... And often for the worse. Without resorting to insult or malice, Martin Parr subtly pokes fun at the habits and quirks of the holidaymakers he meets on his travels. The aim here is to capture the most surprising and unusual behavior, those almost surreal scenes that only last a brief moment... Unless the photographer immortalizes it on film!
Martin Parr's art is a blend ofhumor and poetry, of love for his fellow creatures and incomprehension of some of their behaviors. Don't miss this original exhibition at Quai de la Photo this summer!
