There's a little Icarus in all of us... Like the character from Greek mythology, many of us are fascinated by the sun, its light, its warmth, its powers. Nearly thirty French and international artists have been inspired by this very special star to create unusual works.
These creations can be seen at Hangar Y, from December 16, 2023 to April 21, 2024, in the exhibition Taking the Sun. Sculptures, drawings and paintings, embroidery, video, writing: these artists have been given carte blanche to talk about their relationship with the sun.
Source of life or star with devastating rays of fire, vital light, dazzling star, celestial object replaced by artificial lights... The sun is at the center of our lives, as feared as it is loved, as necessary as it is destructive for the Earth and its inhabitants. It fades every evening, replaced by miniature, artificial, electric suns. The sun can take on many colors, transforming the sky with each sunrise and sunset.
The sun's multi-faceted, versatile nature inspires many artists, as well as scientists! Indeed, the Hangar Y exhibition is presented in partnership with theObservatoire de Paris - PSL. This institution is dedicated to physical astronomy, and hosts researchers specializing in the analysis of the sun.
Photographs and studies by these scientists, such as the astronomer Jules Janssen, also enrich this artistic journey. Here, reality and artistic creation blend and respond to each other, with a common goal: to transcribe all the splendor of our celestial star.
If you're a lover of art, the stars or sunsets, come to the Hangar Y to discover the exhibition Take the Sun!
