Attention figurative painting fans! From October 17, 2023, to February 18, 2024, theSwedish Institute will be showcasing the impressive and sublime artistic work of Scandinavian painter Sara-Vide Ericson. Entitled " Desire of the Tail ", this is the Swedish artist's very first solo exhibition in France. A major first for Sara-Vide Ericson, who is proud to unveil her work and unique style outside Scandinavia and her native country.
In all, some twenty works, large and small, specially created for theSwedish Institute, are to be discovered within the sublime Hôtel de Marle, a late 16th-century architectural jewel that has housed the Swedish Institute since 1971. Spread over two levels, the " Desire of the Tail " exhibition by Sara-Vide Ericson showcases the full range of talent of this artist, born in 1983 and a 2009 graduate of Stockholm's Royal School of Fine Arts.
" The Living Rock (That Ends Time) " by Sara-Vide Ericson
Drawing her inspiration from the natural world around her (the forests, rivers and swamps of the Swedish province of Hälsingland) and from her own experience (featuring, among other things, souvenir objects linked to various stories and experiences, as well as her own horses), Sara-Vide Ericson presents fascinating figurative oil paintings, with striking realism and undeniable technique.
The highly creative Swedish painter uses a method all her own: the piping bag, better known in pastry than in painting. It was while watching videos of cake recipes on social networks that the artist came up with this brilliant idea. It's a method that now enables her to play with relief effects through texture and create three-dimensional ornaments.
To create these deeply captivating canvases, Sara-Vide Ericson doesn't hesitate to take on the role of the character she wishes to paint, giving rise to performances of which she keeps a photographic record.
Although the artist occasionally puts herself on stage, her paintings are not navel-gazing self-portraits. In fact, her paintings reveal very little about herself. Through her works, Sara-Vide Ericson invites us to explore our own connection to the world, to nature and to ourselves.
Visit theSwedish Institute in Paris until February 18, 2024 to discover the incredible canvases of Sara-Vide Ericson, considered one of the most influential painters of her generation.
