Go behind the scenes of the institution where our money is made on a nocturnal tour: head for the Monnaie de Paris, in the 6th arrondissement, for a visit that's definitely out of the ordinary.
We've already seen the annual flashlight tours of the Pantheon, but now you can visit the Monnaie de Paris in the same way, at night, with no lights other than the flashlight we provide. Embark on a timeless tour to discover the architecture of the Monnaie de Paris, designed by Jacques-Denis Antoine when it was built in 1775. Since then - and still today - the Monnaie de Paris has been manufacturing coins in a building that also happens to be a historic manufactory. On site, you'll discover not only a foundry, but also a number of ancient coins and other collector's items, preciously kept in the building.
During your visit, you'll be able to experience first-hand the know-how of some of the trades associated with La Monnaie de Paris, by attending one of the workshops on offer, but above all, discover all the equipment and other machines used to melt and strike the metal to give it the shape, size and design we know today's coins. It's a place that's little known to tourists, but one that we love to visit with family and friends, to discover our country's monetary heritage.
